The Newark Museum of Art in Newark NJ Learn Through Play and Discovery!
The Newark Museum, located in Essex County, is the state's largest museum. It holds a vast collection of American art, decorative arts and contemporary art, as well as arts of Asia, Africa, the Americas and the ancient world. The museum’s numerous programs are appropriate for young children, teens, families and adults of all ages. Interactive Galleries are appropriate for children toddler-age through pre-teen. Each gallery explores either a different part of the world, a different decade, even a different planet. Look/Touch/Learn: Tibet explores the museum's extensive and world-renowned collection of sacred and secular Tibetan objects. 1784 Old Stone School House teaches children about school days from long ago. The Planetarium and Planetarium Gallery set the stage for discovery and offer a spectacular platform for interactive learning about astronomy, space and planetary science. Toddlers can also take part in Creative Play, a program specifically designed for pre-school children to express their creativity in a safe environment. The Art Museum has four galleries that change seasonally to present contemporary and historic artwork. They also feature several permanent exhibits. Founded in 1980, the Museum of Russian Art (MORA) is one of the only art museums of its kind in New Jersey and has been paramount to the introduction of Russian Art to an American audience. The museum is run by a dedicated staff of volunteers who are passionate about Russian Art and Culture. The core collection at the museum was obtained by human rights activist Alexander Glezer and has grown substantially throughout the years. The museum continues to foster Russian culture through exhibitions, events and lectures. Exhibitions change continuously for the seasons, check back frequently to see the unique art you can view. Collections always on display range from works on paper to paintings from Russian artists. Events are always taking place as well, check out their calendar for more information.
