You'll be amazed at what lives in the Hudson River estuary. See enormous fish swimming in huge tanks, listen for the thumping sound made by drum fish and check out other local inhabitants. Go eye to eye with puffer fish, terrapins and other salt marsh dwellers as you learn the importance of this ecosystem.
Hands-on activities allow visitors to test their dexterity at a sophisticated Virtual Crane simulator as they try to load and unload cargo. Move water and sediment in a 20-foot long model of the Hudson River. Create dams and levees, and learn how sedimentation, erosion, and pollution controls affect the river. Slip on a lab coat in the working laboratory and conduct your own mini-experiments in ecology. Weather permitting, step onto the deck for extraordinary views of the Hudson River, Liberty State Park, and lower Manhattan.
