Somerset County Park Commission Nature Center NJ Great for Hiking or Biking!
The Somerset County Park Commission offers miles of trails throughout it's parks. Enjoy the fresh air as you embark on a hike through some of the most picturesque settings in all of North Jersey. These trails are great for walking, jogging, and adventuring.

Somerset County Park Commission also offers many trails specific to biking recreation, including both novice and expert level riders. If you're looking to go mountain biking, Washington Valley Park and the Sourland Mountain Preserve are two of the hottest mountain biking locations in NJ. Duke Island Park and Colonial Park are great locations for those who enjoy biking on pavement. There is definitely something for the whole family to enjoy in Somerset County!

Millbrook Village area Trails
Discover 6 awesome different trails that range in length from an eighth of a mile all the way up to 2.5 miles. The Pioneer Trail is one of the the longest trails, running 2.5 miles long. During the hike you will experience a 454 foot elevation change. The trail starts at the northeast terminus on the Hamilton Ridge Trail. The trail passes through some nice overgrown fields as well as a cool old farmstead before returning to the Hamilton Ridge Trail. The difficulty level is easy.

The Wetlands Institute
The Wetlands institute in Stone Harbor overlooks 6,000 acres of awesome coastal wetlands. There is much to see and do at the Wetlands Institute including walking the nature trails or checking out the observation tower. Their Salt Marsh trail takes visitors into the marsh where you will witness views of migratory birds, fiddler crabs and other creatures that you can see up close and personal. Along the trail, several stations provide visitors with information on what is growing and living all around them.

At trail's end, there is a 125' pier that stretches out over a tidal creek where you can observe one of the worlds' largest colonies of laughing gulls. Or, you can simply sit, rest and enjoy a truly beautiful and peaceful vista. During the summer season, you can enjoy guided walks featuring an informative film about the wetlands or you can go on boat rides, kayaking trips, see live animal shows and more. The Wetlands institute is open all winter for self-guided tours of all the Institutes facilities.

NJ Costal Heritage Trail Route
This trail will show you roads less traveled where you can find historic villages, migrating eagles and boardwalks on miles of sandy beaches. This auto-trail stretches nearly 300 miles along New Jersey's shore and bays. Explore the trail's five regions and you'll find the nation's oldest operating lighthouse. This is all located in the town where revolutionaries burned British tea.

Delaware Water Gap NRA
Spend an afternoon exploring the Delaware River Gap, peering down at it from the ridge or peer.

Boonton Falls Trail and Waterfall
Many people do not know that Boonton is home to a beautiful and spectacular waterfall. Boonton Falls is awesome in its power and a surprisingly well kept secret. Spend a day exploring the trails and seeing the breathtaking waterfall.

Farny Highlands Trail
The Farny Highlands Trail Network consists of trails which range about 30 miles in length. The trails are not widely known to people in Mountain Lakes, but the Farny Highlands region is a huge, rugged, primitive, 35,000-acre wilderness area less than 10 miles away.

Flat Rock Brook Nature Center
The Flat Rock Brook Nature Center is a 150 acre educational preserve located at 433 Van Nostrand Avenue in Englewood, NJ. You will find some nice self-guided trails than span streams, wetlands, ponds, woodlands and open meadows. Great relaxed hiking for adults and kids alike.

Ramapo Reservation Loop
This reservation has 10 marked trails with the longest reaching over 6 and a half miles! The entrance to the park is on Ramapo Valley Road (US 202) in Mahwah, just south of its intersection with Darlington Avenue, and about two miles south of route 17. If you're into hiking, this is about as good as it gets in NJ. See rushing streams, ruins, and incredible water falls!
