The oldest Special Needs camp!
Camp Oakhurst opened its doors in 1906, and since then has been serving the community loyally. The Camp is operated by the New York Service for the Handicapped, and is open to not only children, but teens and adults that have physical and developmental disabilities.
Camp Oakhurst is a fully accessible camp. The 15 open acres are unbarred, allowing for easy wheel chair access throughout. This includes the heated pool!
A Great Camp for Learning Social Skills! The NBN Autism Program's special needs summer camp, titled the Explorer's Club Summer Camp, is a camp specifically designed for 4 to 18 year olds with Autism, PDD, Asperger's, and ADHD. The camp runs for four weeks, and focuses on improving the social skills of its campers.
Activities at the camp include learning to cope with frustration, integrating into the community, team-building activities, and learning to develop social skills & Independent living skills. Full and Half day Available!
Another Great Camp for Developing Social Skills! Every summer, Amazing Transformations runs a special needs camp in NJ called Amazing Summer! for 6 weeks. The program focuses on children between 6 and 15 years old with PDD, Down Syndrome, ADHD, Asperger's, Autism, Social Anxiety, and anyone else in need of social skills development.
The program is overseen by qualified professionals such as behavior analysts, ABA therapists, paraprofessionals, and certified special education teachers. During the program, campers will take Field trips, play games, learn about Art, Music, and Sports. Progress reports at the end of the session!
The most personable camp in NJ! Camp Altitude is a sleepaway summer camp for special needs children in NJ that is run two weeks in the summer months. The traditional camp experience should be experienced by everyone, and Camp Altitude makes sure that's a possibility!
The camp is for 6th through 12th graders with verbal and nonverbal learning disabilities, ADHD, Asperger's, and High Functioning Autism. The camp can be attended either as a day camp or a sleepaway camp.
The Elks Camp Moore Special Needs Summer Camp is beautiful camp, situated in the Ramapo Mountains. This camp looks to give Special Needs campers an experience they will never forget. The entire facility is wheelchair accessible, including their heated pool!
Other than the heated pool, facilities include an outdoor eating area known as the Pavilion, a Music Room, and a Playground that was donated to the Elks Club by the North West District.
The Most Unique Summer Camp! Marblejam Kids teams up with Joey Travolta to make a special short film camp in NJ. Joey Travolta is a special educator and film maker, and he and his crew take on a group of 12 to 23 year olds and teach them everything they need to know about film from thinking of a great storyline to editing the final product. At the end of the camp, students get to attend a red carpet viewing of their final product.
What's special about this camp is that it isn't specifically for special needs children. But, with Mr. Travolta being a special educator, it is extremely inclusive to children with special needs. Take home a copy of the finished film!
The Most Fun in a Safe Environment! The MDA Summer Camp is a Special Needs Summer Camp NJ is proud of. The Summer camp is specific to children with neuromuscular disease. The camp is one of few of its kind. This summer camp looks to extend the campers' comfort zones, and become more independent as they are spending an entire week away from home.
The camp focuses on outdoor activities such as zip lining, rock climbing, and swimming, but also some traditional camping experiences such as arts and crafts and camp dances. The MDA Summer Camp stresses that safety is the #1 thing on their list, and make sure that the environment is safe, and fun, for the campers!
