HIKING NJ - HIKING TRAILS NJ

PLACES TO GO HIKING IN NJ

Millbrook Village
Take The Millbrook Hiking Tour! Pick up the Millbrook Village Trail that goes to Donkey's Hollow Trail. Heading south from here along Van Campens Glen Trail takes the hiker past the Watergate Picnic Area, the Upper Falls, and the Lower Falls to the Lower Glen Picnic Area on Old Mine Road. The hiker can then hike north along Old Mine Road back to Millbrook Village or turn around and return on the Van Campens Glen Trail.

The Wetlands institute
The Wetlands institute in Stone Harbor overlooks 6,000 acres of coastal wetlands. Walk the nature trails or check out the observation tower. Their Salt Marsh trail takes visitors into the marsh where you will witness views of migratory birds, fiddler crabs and other creatures are up close and personal. Along the trail, several stations provide visitors with information on what is growing and living all around them.

At trail’s end, there is a 125' pier that stretches out over a tidal creek where you can observe one of the worlds’s largest colonies of laughing gulls. Or, you can simply sit, rest and enjoy a truly beautiful and peaceful vista. During the summer season, guided walks, featuring an informative film about the wetlands, begin Monday–Saturday at 10AM, Noon & 2PM and Sundays at 11AM & 1PM.

NJ Costal Heritage Trail Route
The Trail will show you roads less traveled where you can find historic villages, migrating eagles, and boardwalks on miles of sandy beaches. This auto-trail stretches nearly 300 miles along New Jersey’s shore and bays. Explore the Trail’s five regions and you’ll find the nation’s oldest operating lighthouse; the town where revolutionaries burned British tea; and the state’s official tall ship.
