Serenity Farms

Serenity Farms’ history dates back to 1976 when Elmer and Joyce Gafgen purchased a farmhouse built-in 1932.

Located in Robbinsville, New Jersey, Serenity farms has been home to many animals, including cows, chickens, and horses.

They have also harvested many different crops from strawberries to corn, soybeans, eggplant, cauliflower, and even wheat!

What started as a small family farm in New Jersey has grown into a huge farm.

So, what made this traditional farm begin to grow lavender?

It started in 2018 when an influx of deer took to the farm to start snacking on their crop. How do lavender and deer connect?

Lavender deters deer.

Thus, the family lavender farm was born!

Using this as a lesson to teach the family’s two teenage daughters the value of hard work and how to run a business, the family began planting three different varieties of lavender, including Munstead, Hidcote, and Grosso.

Fast forward to 2020, and the family now has over 4 acres of lavender planted on the farm, and they have added honeybees and nearly 5 acres of wildflowers! 

The farm is closed during the winter, reopening in April of 2021. However, you can still check out their online store! Here, you will find a tremendous number of goodies made from the lavender harvested on the farm. These include lavender sugar scrubs, simple syrup, aromatherapy spray, and so much more!

Happy Day Farm

Located in Manalapan, New Jersey, Happy Day Farm is home to beautiful lavender fields and so much more! 

You can’t pick the lavender, but the family does set up multiple photo opportunities so you can post your adventure to the gram! 

This might be surprising, but the family did not get their start by growing lavender.

Instead, after their first daughter was born, they decided that it would be a fun idea to raise a family pumpkin patch, which ended up being a delightful experience! 

What started as a 30 X 30 patch soon grew to be 60 X 60, and then an acre, and then the family added a corn maze and began their annual October Festival. 

In 2012, the family purchased Happy Day Farm and began offering fun activities throughout the year!

This family-owned farm sprawls over 130 acres of u-pick crops, including blueberries, raspberries, sunflowers, and pumpkins. 

Happy Day Farm provides food and refreshments to their guests and sells their own berries, eggs, flowers, fruit, honey, and maple syrup.

Stating in the spring, visitors can go to Happy Day Farm to experience the incredible lavender fields for themselves. 

The fields are open through the end of June, and visitors are encouraged to take as many photos as possible to commemorate their trip!

Happy Day Farm grows two different types of lavender, Phenomenal and Hidcode, so that you can spend the day relaxing and taking in the calming fragrant scents of the row and rows of purple lavender bushes.

Orchard View Lavender Farm

Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from April Until December

If you find yourself in Port Murray, New Jersey, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Orchard View Lavender Farm.

You and the family can take a tranquil and peaceful stroll through the rows of blue, pink, and purple lavender.

Take plenty of pictures as you let the calming scent of the lavender replace your stress with serenity and wellness.

Orchard View Lavender Farm is committed to growing its plants organically and without the use of pesticides and herbicides.

Since they started in May 2015 growing near 1300 plants, their goal is to continue to grow more and more of their English and French cultivars each year.

Orchard View’s ultimate goal is to become a household destination for cut your own lavender plants.

Currently, they offer many lavender products to their visitors, including cooking, household, bath and body products, sachets, wreaths, teas, and plenty of gifts and home décor items.

Mad Lavender Farm

Then you may want to make a stop at the whimsical and lovely Mad Lavender Farm.

Located in Milford, New Jersey, owners Adrienne and Don took over the family farm in 2012 with the vision of creating a place of sustainable living and sharing their vision with the community.

What began as a well-known pick your own raspberry farm, like many other farms, the crop was ruined by those ever-present snack munching deer.

Like so many other farmers, Adrienne and Don learned of Lavender and its ability to deter deer populations.

As the owners learned more about the healing properties of lavender along with its beauty, variety, and resilience, the more they became enchanted with the incredible plant.

Now, they grow seven different varieties of lavender on the farm! In addition to the many different kinds of lavender, Mad Lavender Farm has a Lavender Labyrinth and a multitude of lavender products – all of which are made by hand.

Bees were brought in to help pollinate the lavender, and now beeswax and honey products are offered on the farm which are sourced from the neighboring Tassot Apiaries.

Everything on the Mad Lavender Farm is grown organically and without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Once spring approaches, head to the Mad Lavender Farm to sip on a lavender lemonade while hanging out with the Nigerian goats!

Princeton Lavender Farm

Princeton Lavender Farm, located on Lawrenceville Road in Princeton, New Jersey, was started in 2016.

The couple who purchased the farm built a New England Colonial farmhouse and opened the farm stand in 2018.

The Princeton Lavender Farm has created a lovely little place where you can go for lavender and honey products.

Starting with beehives, the family expanded to a goat pasture and acre of lavender in September of 2019.

Since then, Princeton Lavender Farms has offered fun lavender-inspired recipes, including cold brew lavender coffee, lavender lemonade, and a fan favorite – the lavender pumpkin bread, YUM!

As the farm continues to grow, they add new things each year, such as the goats and chickens that showed up in 2020.

Currently growing two different varieties, Princeton Lavender Farm is home to Phenomenal and Big Time Blue Lavender, known for their deeper colors, and the Melissa Pink Lavender, which boasts a lighter color.

Those visiting the farm can order the fresh lavender bread, play with and feed the Dappled and Spotted Boer goats, and even check out the Amish built farm stand showcasing all of the handmade lavender products.

Hidden Spring Lavender Farm

Hidden Spring Lavender Farm has been family owned for many years.

The husband-and-wife team ran the farm themselves and planted their first lavender field nearly twelve years ago.

Since then, they have grown many different varieties to suit the tastes of all of the visitors! There are so many other lavender products that you can pick up while you are here, including oils, culinary products, bouquets, buds, and essential oils.

Located in Skillman, New Jersey, the farm also offers a wide range of skin and beauty products such as creams, moisturizers, lotions, soaps, neck, eye pillows, arrangements, and wreaths, gift baskets, and countless other home and bath and body products.

Visitors rave about the little shop and all of the wonderful products they sell there – perfect for a unique and thoughtful gift.

The staff is said to be kind and friendly. Typical shop hours are on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am – 4 pm.

Guests may stroll the fields.

However, they are not permitted to pick the lavender but feel free to visit the gift shop to pick up a bushel.

For the kids, there are Hidden Spring’s Buena Bears available for purchase. These adorable plush bears are stuffed with lavender – perfect for getting the little ones to nap on the way home.

Pleasant Valley Lavender Farm

If you are passing through Morganville, New Jersey, or are looking for a fun day trip to Central Jersey, be sure to check out the Pleasant Valley Lavender Farm.

This farm hosts over 10-acres of close to 2,00 lavender plants! Boasting both French and English varieties, guests can pick their own lavender throughout the summer months by scheduling an appointment.

Those looking for the bounty without the extra work can call ahead and have the farm pick and harvest bundles of lavender for pick up or delivery.

This farm was inspired by a family reunion trip to Sequim, Washington – aptly known as The Lavender Capital of North America.

What started as an initial harvest of just 150 plants has grown to enormous acres of over 2,000 lavender bushes. In addition to picking your own or having bundles delivered, guests can purchase fresh cut lavender, dried lavender, handmade sachets, loose buds, and plenty of handcrafted soaps and lavender honey.

While the fields are closed for the year until June, visitors are welcomed to explore the rows and rows of beautiful and fragrant lavender plants once they reopen in the spring.

The farm also hosts their own beehives- this is where the honey comes from, and visitors can purchase their own lavender plants!

Those looking to purchase the delicious produce grown at the farm can visit the farm stand and leave with vegetables, fruits, and eggs laid by the small flock of free-range chickens that run around the farm.
