Reviews Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge NJ Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge is set on 171 acres at the western edge of Pinelands habitat. We offer a unique habitat that is characterized by sandy, acidic soils. You’ll see lots of Pitch Pine and White Cedar as well as Chestnut Oak and blueberry bushes during your hike. Before you begin, stop in our Nature Center to check out our exhibits, pay trail admission and pick up a refuge map. Trail admission is: $5/adult, $3/child ages 4-16. Our center is open Mon-Sat. 10:00am-4:00pm and Sun. 12:00pm-4:00pm. Our 3 miles of trails wind through our Refuge and into our animal housing area. Here you can observe more than 60 of our resident wildlife including fox, raccoon, hawks, owls and falcons.

Homeschool groups
Knee-High Naturalists (ages 3-4), Nature Nuts (ages 5-7) and Homeschool Groups (ages 8+) - On the second Tuesday and Wednesday of the month, running September-June (excluding December), one of our education staff will help you and your child explore nature through songs, skits, crafts, and more. Choose from our 10:00am or 1:00pm session. We will spend time outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. Cost: $8/child (1 adult/child admitted free).

Summer Camps
Walk in the woods, dig in the dirt, and wade in the water during our week-long nature day camps. Daily activities include hands-on experiences and experiments, visits with native wildlife, and creative play. Sessions available for ages 3-14. Discovery by the Day - Pay by the day to accommodate scheduling needs. Activities will be planned so campers attending for just a few days won’t feel like they missed out! 9:00am-3:00pm.
Fledglings (ages 3-4) - For these little ones, we begin to investigate the woods through games, hikes, crafts and song. 9:00am-12:00pm.
Polliwogs (ages 5-6) - Here’s a way to open the eyes of young ones to the wonders of nature. Budding naturalists will enjoy nature filled activities using all of their senses. 9:00am-12:00pm.
Pond Paradise (ages 7-8) - What creatures lurk in the waters of Cedar Run? Campers will explore the puddles, ponds and swamps of the Refuge. 9:00am-3:00pm.
Forest Frolic (ages 7-8) - Discover what’s lurking in the Pine Barrens. Campers see what it feels like to be animals surviving in the woods. 9:00am-3:00pm.
Awesome Adventurers (ages 9-10) - Are your campers ready for adventure? With their team they will explore the Refuge and find themselves challenged to "survive” a week in the Pines. 9:00am-3:00pm.
Wild 4 Wildlife (ages 9-10) - Have you ever wondered what goes on in your own backyard when you’re not looking? Campers will work together with their team to discover who is living right under their noses. 9:00am-3:00pm.
Land, Sea & Air (ages 11-14) - Discover all you can about the different habitats and animals at Cedar Run. Explore underground, high in the sky and everywhere in between. 9:00am-3:00pm.

Birthday Parties
Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge Medford NJ Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge is a great venue for your youth AND adult birthday parties. Adult parties are based on your interest but typically include a guided tour of the animals and an up close and personal meet and greet with some of our raptors and/or reptiles. Adult party prices are program dependent.

Youth birthday parties at the refuge are 2 hours and are scheduled from 10:00AM-12:00PM or 1:00PM-3:00PM on weekends and on weekdays by special arrangement. Night hike times are dependent on the season. Choose from the themes below, or call us with a special request. All themes can be adapted to meet the age of the birthday child. Just ask!

Youth Parties include a themed program delivered by one of our education staff and use of our party room or outdoor pavilion for the full 2 hours (first or last half hour is reserved for food, etc.). Cost: $12/child (members), $13/child (non-members). There is an additional $20 fee for groups requesting a campfire.

Scout It Out
Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge NJ reviews Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge is the perfect place to complete a variety of your scout requirements for boy scouts, cub scouts, and girl scouts. Our education staff can tailor a program to meet many of the requirements you are looking to fulfill. We’re also a great place to perform service projects!

Scouts can choose from several programs that include nature-based activities and visits with native wildlife. Hike the grounds! Sharpen your skills! Get up close and personal with raptors, reptiles and more. Cost: $6/child ($48 minimum). Our Refuge on Wheels programs are also available at your site for Pack or Troop meetings (see below for details).

Refuge Adventures
Bring your group to explore Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Programs are suitable for all ages and can be adapted to meet your needs. Stay to enjoy lunch in our picnic pavilion. The 3 ½ hour program includes a short presentation, hands-on activities, hike along the trail, and guided tour of the animal housing area. Cost: $8/child ($120 minimum). A 2 hour program includes hands-on activities, brief hike and guided tour of the animal housing area. Cost is: $6/child ($90 minimum).

Topics:
Healthy Habitats - Students will become more connected to the human impact on the environment with this program that discusses Leave No Trace, toxic spills, pesticide use and more.
Reptiles and Amphibians - Students will get an up-close and personal look at the scaly and slimy creatures that hide right under our feet.
Exploring Microhabitats - Students will focus on a world of wonder packed into the tiny spaces that surround them. We investigate logs and their cracks and crevices to discover a world teeming with life. • Survival - Take a hike, learn how to construct a fire, build a debris hut and discover other skills to survive in the forest.
Winged Wonders - This lively program, geared for younger audiences (ages 3-7), teaches the characteristics of our bird friends while introducing the children to two of our resident raptors.
Owl Stories - Young students (ages 3-7) are fascinated by the songs and stories that teach them about these nocturnal creatures, but are truly amazed when they meet a real owl.

Refuge on Wheels
Reviews of Cedar Run Wildlife RefugeCan’t come to the Refuge? We’ll bring our animals to you! Most programs can accommodate up to 100 students and are approximately 1 hour in length. Cost: $250 for the first program, second program on the same day: $225. Mileage fee may apply.

Programs for older groups (ages 8+) include:
Hunters of the Sky - Bring live hawks and owls to your school for a dramatic presentation. Students become part of the program to highlight the animals’ amazing adaptations while learning why we need to protect and conserve their habitats.
Raptors and Reptiles - A bird of prey, a snake, and a turtle all make the journey to your school for this exciting program. Observe each species’ unique characteristics and learn about their habitats and adaptations for survival.
Predator and Prey - This program focuses on the everyday struggle for survival in the forests of South Jersey. We’ll discover who is eating who and how each animal fights for his life while focusing on filling his belly. Animals will include at least one raptor and one reptile.
Endangered Species - Students learn why many animals have become threatened or endangered, and how to help prevent them from becoming extinct. Students will have a chance to meet live animals that are listed as NJ threatened and endangered species.
What's in an Egg? - Students learn what different types of animals can come from eggs and how each of those eggs are different. Students will have a chance to meet live animals that come from eggs.

We also offer classroom and small group programs specifically designed for children ages 3-7. These programs include group participation, a story and a live animal encounter. Programs are approximately 30 minutes in length. Cost: $150 for the first program, second program on the same day $125. Mileage fee may apply.

Our Feathered Friends - What makes birds different from all other animals? Feathers!! Students will learn all the uses of these awesome things we call feathers and meet some of our feathered friends up-close.
Creatures of the Night - Students will learn the difference between nocturnal and diurnal (day) animals and get to meet some live nighttime visitors up-close.
