June 7, 8, 9th Shore Orchid Festival  635 Wayside Rd., Neptune, NJ 732-922-2635 The Shore Orchid Festival will be held June 7, 8, 9, 2013, at Silva Orchids in Neptune, New Jersey. This fun, educational event will feature twenty orchid vendors, both domestic and international, who will bring an amazing selection of orchids for purchase. There will be daily workshops and lectures, and a separate section for orchid plants which have been judged by accredited American Orchid Society judges. Daily tours through this area will be given, and a discussion of awarded plants will be held at this time. A local New Jersey winery will be on site, as well as a food vendor. June 8 - 9th New Jersey Pirates and Privateers Weekend  101 Airport Road, Berkeley Township, NJ 732-333-8819 Come party like it's 1699 at the New Jersey Pirates and Privateers Weekend June 8th and 9th at the Ocean County Fairgrounds at Robert J. Miller Air Park, 101 Airport Road, Berkeley Township, NJ. This is a joint presentation by the County of Ocean and Bloody Historical, to bring you living history like you've never seen it before. Demonstrations of life in the 18th century will go on all day, along with cannon and small arms fire, music, pirate skits and sword fighting; entertainment for the wee pirates including song, scavenger and treasure hunts, games and storytelling and Jack Sparrow!   An epic battle is scheduled in the early afternoon that pits the Privateers (Pirate hunters) against the Pirates and includes cannon fire, small arms fire, sword fighting and the attempted burning down of the Customs House! A portion of the proceeds from the Weekend will go to the Ocean County Parks System so devastated by Hurricane Sandy. June 13th Bow Wow Luau  Basking Ridge Country Club, 185 Madisonville Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ 908-625-6513 Friends of the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (FOSRAS) will host a "Bow Wow Luau'' from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13th, at the Basking Ridge Country Club, 185 Madisonville Road. Tropical food and drinks will be featured at the event, a benefit for FOSRAS, a non-profit, volunteer group that supports the Bridgewater-based animal shelter. There will be a best dressed dog contest and a basket auction. Advance tickets are $55 per person, $65 at the door. There is an additional charge of $10 per dog and $5 for each additional dog.
